Challenge: Unique subjects for university

A parent approached OTUK for high-level tuition in Philosophy and English Literature – two essay-based subjects forming the foundation of a conditional offer from the University of Oxford. With A* grades required and the student currently sitting at an A in both subjects, there was a great deal of pressure to close the gap and secure the offer.

Action: Subject-specific, high-calibre support

Each OTUK subject is taught by a dedicated tutor with academic expertise. For English and Philosophy – which demand strong critical thinking and analytical skills – we arranged trial sessions with subject-specialist tutors holding degrees in the relevant fields. Once the right fit was found, a tailored plan was created, aligned to the exam board and focused on broadening the student’s interpretative skills through discussion-led sessions and guided essay work.

Result: Offer secured

The student successfully met the A* requirements and secured their place at Oxford. Both the student and parent were delighted – and relieved – to see their hard work pay off.
